Inside Amazon, Diversity Concerns Flare Up After Harassment Accusations
Amazon has recently fallen under scrutiny due to harassment accusations within the company. An email was sent to all Amazon employees to attempt to settle their concerns, saying, "they are doing their job to provide a harassment-free workplace."
The woman who has filed the harassment complaint claims that the company initially investigated the incident when it occurred in 2015 and that they knew all of the details of the incident.
After the woman went public with the incident, Amazon suspended the accused man, and a week later he resigned from his position within the company. Many are confused as to why he didn't lose his position when the incident was initially brought to attention.
With the controversy surrounding the accused man's remaining after the incident, issues of diversity within the company have been brought about. Of the 16 senior executives of the company, only one is a woman.
Amazon is definitely not the only company with this diversity issue. Only three of the fifteen senior executives at Microsoft are women, and only six of the eighteen members of Apple's general counsel are women,
